Ancient Canaanite Short Sword Dagger Holy Land Bronze Age 2300 -2000 BC
Very rare, museum-quality, ancient Canaanite short sword-dagger that originated from the Holy Land during the early Bronze Age IV (2300-2000 BC). It was made during the time of the biblical patriarch Abraham and is cast and hammered from bronze. The sword has a double-edged tapered blade with a bulged cardinal nerve and slanted shoulders. Additionally, the heart-shaped tang is pierced with eight rivet holes, which were used to attach handles made of a different material. Four rivets remain in place, while the other four have been lost.
CONDITION: In good condition for an antique combat bronze dagger that is over 4000 years old. The surface is covered by its natural dark brown and green patina, the blade is slightly bent.
MEASUREMENTS: Overall length: 29 cm (11.4 inches).
PROVENANCE: From an old Canadian collection formed in the 1980s.
REFERENCES: Very similar daggers from ancient Geze of Tell el-Jazari are in the Palestine Exploration Fund collection and were published in the PEQ (Palestine Exploration Quarterly) on September 6, 2018, under the title "Early Bronze Age Levantine Metal Weapons from the Palestine Exploration Fund Collection" by Daria Montanari (Department of Oriental Studies, Sapienza University, Rome, Italy).
