Antique 18th - 19th centuries Armenian Ottoman Silver Filigree Large Belt Buckle
An antique 18th to 19th-century Armenian Ottoman belt buckle or cloak clasp fastener made of high-grade filigree and partially gilt silver features two large, circular domed bosses.
Each boss consists of numerous elements crafted from fine filigree wire, intricately twisted and soldered with notable precision. The design features scrolling foliage, leaves, and flower heads, all set with faux gemstones in raised settings and decorated with crossed gilt straps.
The hook is hallmarked with two illegible stamps.
These fine, filigree buckles were sewn onto the fabric of a belt or cloak.
The intricate fine silver filigree work is time-consuming and expensive, highlighting its owner's wealth and social status.
This silver filigree buckle is a significant example of Armenian goldsmith artistry and was specially crafted for a wealthy Armenian aristocrat.
