Antique 18th Century Catholic Bishop Miter with Gold Silk Brocade
Antique 18th-19th century Catholic bishop episcopal headgear miter of a traditional peaked form.
It has a traditional peaked shape and is made of cardboard covered with gold thread brocade and moire silk.
It is decorated with silver brocade shaped like an inverted T and has diamond and oval silver foil panels with a green and purple metallic finish. The sides are adorned with repose gilt metal ornaments. A strip of crocheted gold thread lace trims the edges, and the lappet is also trimmed with a strip of crocheted lace made of golden thread, terminating with gold bullion fringes. The inside of the miter has a white silk lining.
CONDITION: Shows age and use. The brocade is slightly worn, with a green and purple finish on the silver foil panels rubbed, some minor dents to the repose gilt metal ornaments, and one lappet missing.
