Antique 18th Century English Cut Steel Small Sword

Antique 18th Century English Cut Steel Small Sword

SKU: E1001

This is a small antique sword from 18th-century England. It has a thrusting tapering blade that is hollow and triangular in section. The hilt is made of bright steel and is set with multi-faceted studs that resemble rose-cut diamonds. The hilt comprises an oval shell guard, a recurved cross guard, an urn-shaped pommel with a button, and a faceted swelling grip.
The urn-shaped pommel and the crossguard finial affix with the loops for suspension of the knuckle chain.
The decoration on this cut steel-hilted small sword is characteristic of the Mathew Boulton (1728-1809) manufacturer in Birmingham. Boulton only produced the cut steel hilts and imported the blades for these swords from Solingen, Germany, like many other British sword suppliers, since they were much better quality than the blades manufactured in Great Britain.
CONDITION: Both the blade and the hilt are in very good condition.

MEASUREMENTS:
Overall length: 96.5 cm (37.99 inches).
Length of the blade: 79.4 cm (31.26 inches).
