Antique 18th century Imperial Russian Glass Vodka Decanter Shtof Штоф
Rare antique, 18th-century Imperial Russian glass vodka decanter Shtof (Штоф- Штофик), made by Jamburg Glass Factories (Ямбургский стеклянный заво) or Imperial Glass Factory in St Petersburg (Императорский стеклянный завод).
A hand-blown glass vodka shtof decanter of rectangular shape with a sloping shoulder, a short neck with a flaring lip, and a body engraved on one side with an Imperial double-headed eagle under the imperial crown within a radiating circle. The base has a polished pontil.
Over the centuries, the shape of the Russian two-headed eagle has undergone many changes. This eagle pattern is characteristic of the 18th-century form.
Due to their fragile glass, these decanters are very rare. Most have broken over 200 years, and few survive today.
