Antique Burmese Silver Box with Hindu God Vishnu In Anantasayana Burma
Antique Burmese handmade solid silver, superb quality large rectangular box adorned with Anantasayana, Burma, late 19th century.
The hinged lid is decorated with finely hand chased and embossed in high relief Sheshashayi Vishnu and the birth of Lord Brahma, depicting the four-armed Lord Vishnu reclining on a bed formed by the serpent scrolls of Sheshanaga and protected by the Naga’s heads.
The four-faced and four-armed Brahma in the lotus emanates from Vishnu’s navel. He is accompanied by his two consorts, Lakshmi at his feet and Sarasvati at his rear.
He is attended by various other gods and rishis standing in obeisance. The four sides of the box are decorated with various figures from Hinduism.
CONDITION: It is in good condition, considering its age to be over 100 years old, showing age and usage. Two front corners of the lid are slightly hurt, with a tiny split from usage; otherwise, it is intact. No repairs or restoration.
