Antique Garuda/Hanuman Indian Hindu Ghanta Puja Bell 19th Century
A large antique 19th-century Indian Hindu temple puja bell, or Ghanta, featuring a janus handle with figures of the monkey God Hanuman and Garuda. The bowl is engraved with two elephants, a zebu bull, and floral patterns with scrolls.
CONDITION: Showing signs of age and usage, the handle is slightly bent. The figures, with a nice old patina, appear well-worn from ritual use and handling. It's in working order and sounds good!
MEASUREMENTS:
Height: 18.5 cm (7.28 inches).
Width: 10 cm (3.94 inches).
NOTE: The bells play an important role in any puja (worship), particularly during the offering of aarati, where a camphor or oil lamp is waved before the deity to ward off evil. The worshipper rings the bell with their right hand while holding the lamp in their left hand.
