Antique Indian Bronze Statue Hindu Goddess Durga 18th Century India
This antique 18th-century bronze statue depicts the Hindu goddess Durga. She is shown with eight arms, each holding one of her sacred implements, including a trident. Durga wears a distinctive Devo-style conical hat and flowing robes. At her feet sits her vahana, or sacred mount, a tiger.
Durga, known for her power to uphold moral order and righteousness in the universe, is highly revered in the Hindu faith.
This wonderful bronze statue features excellent casting and intricate detailing. It has a substantial weight and a beautiful patina and displays signs of devotional wear. The crevices contain traces of red sandalwood paste, which is often used during worship, giving it a strong sense of age.
