Antique Islamic Medieval 13th century AD Gilt Bronze Lion Plaque

SKU: IS618

This very rare antique dates back to the 13th century A.D. (597 AH – 700 AH) and originates from the Muslim Abbasid Caliphate in Al-Jazira (الجزيرة). It is an openwork gilt bronze plaque depicting a lion.

The lion has a tail that curves over its body, standing tall with a proud chest and head.

The plaque is hand-cut in openwork with engraved details, including the lion's ears, eyes, nose, and fur texture, all highlighted by the gilded gold surface.

It retains all three original rivets for attachment.
