Antique Medieval 15th century AD Islamic Timurid Blue and White Ceramic Dish
Antique, late 15th century AD (9th century AH) Timurid, medieval, Islamic from Central Asia, Blue and White ceramic dish modeled after a medieval Ming Dynasty Blue and White dish.
It has a deep, round shape and is supported by a short foot. The rim is everted and cusped.
The interior is painted underglaze in cobalt blue on an off-white ground. The design features seven stylized flower heads with abstract vegetal motifs in between. The rim has sketchily scrolling designs and dotted motifs. The foot was pierced during the process of making the vessel so it could be hung on the wall.
This dish was quite expensive and only available to the Timurid elite.
Blue and white Timurid pottery was inspired by an early Ming blue and white prototype, which dates back to the reign of either the Hongwu Emperor (1368-99) or the Xuande Emperor (1426-35). Additionally, other Timurid works, including jade ceramic and metalwork, were also influenced by Chinese Ming dynasty artwork.
MEASUREMENTS:
Diameter: 26.7 cm (10.51 inches).
Height: 6.5 cm (2.56 inches).
CONDITION: overall, in good condition. However, I believe that a small part of the rim glaze has an old, invisible to the eye restoration.
