Antique silver Greek Orthodox double-sided, carved wood blessing cross, Greece, Holy Mount Athos, 18th century (1700-1800 A.D.).
The front is finely carved with an image of Christ crucified on the cross. Above the crucifixion scene, there is a divine eye that adds a touch of emotional and spiritual depth to the artwork.
The reverse is finely carved with a standing, robed figure of the Mother of God.
The cross is enclosed in a silver casing that adds elegance and durability. The casing is designed with a sunburst ray that emanates from the four corners, symbolizing the radiance of divine grace and blessing. The cross is mounted on a turned baluster form stem that is affixed by a screw to the domed base. The base is hand repoussé and engraved with ornate baroque designs, making it a true work of art.
