SOLD Original Antique Russian Cossack's Soviet sword Shashka model 1927 -1942

Details: A slightly curved single edged steel blade, with a wide full-length fuller stamped on one side of the forte by the Zlatoust Arms Factory in Cyrillic letter “ZIK” and dated 1942; the other side is stamped with the letter M.

A regulation hilt with a spirally carved wooden grip and brass fittings, the pommel struck with the letter M, the guard struck with the letter M with number 37.

The sword comes with its original scabbard with Bayonet. The wooden scabbard is covered in black lacquered canvas mounted with a large iron locket and chape and four brass mounts stamped with letter M.

Since the soviet star on the pommel is erased it is possible that this sword was used by the polish soldiers of the 1 separate cavalry brigade 1944-1945 (1 Samodzielna Brygada Kawalerii 1944-1945) of the First Polish Army in the USSR armed with the 1942 model shashka.

CONDITION: The sword is in very good condition, with signs of age and usage. The Soviet stars on the pommel erased.

The canvas on the scabbard near the brass ring is chipped. This is the nicest example of this model of sword which we have had, free of any type of restorations or repairs, in its original condition.

MEASUREMENTS: Overall length with the scabbard: 96.5 cm (38 in), the length without the scabbard: 94 cm (37 in), length of the blade: 80 cm (31 1/2 inches). Overall length with the bayonet: 50.5 cm (19 7/8 in)
